  • Cruise along the rivers maze of canals for a taste of the lush and lively culture.
  • Visit the less travelled spots of the rural gem Cai Thia.
  • Spend time gently cruising through one of the Mekong’s huge floating markets.
  • Explore the border town of Chau Doc and surrounding areas before entering Cambodia.
Ho Chi Minh city - Cai Be - Can Tho

Day 1 Ho Chi Minh city - Cai Be - Can Tho

Meals: lunch | Accommodation: Superior room, Hau Giang Hotel (or similar), Can Tho

Around 8:00 am we will leave the city centre for an approximate 2.5 hour drive to our exploration area. We will let the touristy spots behind and travel beyond, where very few other visitors have the chance to go.

We will arrive at Cai Thia pier at about 10:30 am, when we will board our boat and start hitting the waterways till the village of Hoa Loc. We will cycle through different villages on the winding countryside and visit local houses en-route, with opportunities to learn about local handicrafts or be invited for a cup of tea with some local snack.

Later we will meet our boat again and ride further to a less busy area of the Mekong, where our bamboo sampan (rowing boat) will be waiting to take us deeper into the countryside of the Delta through its networks of small canals.

In the afternoon, we will cruise towards Vinh Long with some more stops at local workshops. Around 16:00h, a quick transfer will bring us from Vinh Long pier to Can Tho, where we will check-in at our hotel and enjoy the night in this “mega city” of the Mekong Delta.

Can Tho - Tra Su - Chau Doc

Day 2 Can Tho - Tra Su - Chau Doc

Meals: breakfast, lunch | Accommodation: Deluxe room, Hung Cuong hotel (or similar), Chau Doc

An early start will be necessary (around 6:00 am!), since we have thought that you would like to see the Cai Rang floating market at its fullest. While our boat will glide slowly through the market mayhem, please feel free to take photographs, talk or bargain with local vendors. There are fantastic photo opportunities amidst the variety of agricultural bounty on sale here.  We will be back to hotel for breakfast, and then check-out at 8:00 am to continue with our journey to Chau Doc.

Around noon, we will arrive at Tra Su National Park, an ecosystem of cajuput trees. A short walk from the parking area will take us to the small pier where a boat will await to take us deeper into the mangrove forest. We will soon find ourselves zipping through a living carpet of water lettuce, passing birds of all shapes and colours. We will enjoy a simple lunch at a local restaurant in the heart of the forest before making our way back and settling down at our hotel in Chau Doc  around 17:00.

Chau Doc - Phnom Penh

Day 3 Chau Doc - Phnom Penh

Meals: breakfast | Accommodation: not included

Early in the morning (around 6:45), we will be picked up from our hotel to the boat pier where we will embark on a speed boat for a 4-hours – 5,5 hours (depending on traffic and visa arrangements) ride to Phnom Penh, where our trip will end.
This will be our starting point for discovering Cambodia and the celebrated temples of Angkor.

We remain at your disposal if you would like us to help to organize your Cambodian adventure as well. Our local team will be glad to receive you upon your arrival in Cambodia.
Of course a transfer back to Saigon can also be arranged if you wish.

Please note:

Cambodia visa is required for most nationalities. It is easy to obtain in advance at overseas Cambodian embassies; or through the online e-Visa (www.evisa.gov.kh); it’s also available upon arrival at international border crossing checkpoints in Phnom Penh (airport and boat pier) and Siem Reap. Please let you Handspan travel consultant know in case you want us to proceed with your visa arrangements.
