Overview

Ho Chi Minh City, still often called Saigon, has been a city of immigrants from its founding in the 17 century. It was once a small fishing village that has expanded to well over 2,000km2 with a population somewhere between 7 and 9 million (many residents are not registered). Recognized as a Mecca of commerce, its bustling chaos makes it easily Vietnam’s most exciting city. But it’s also a city with a chequered history and a rich culture. Its pagodas, museums, public buildings, parks and boulevards make it a magnet for visitors.  Let’s look beyond the modern high-rises and see a more authentic, historic side of Ho Chi Minh City and its suburban.

Meal: lunch | Accommodation: not included

8:00 – pick up from your hotel by scooters, our guide will drive you along the colonial boulevards of Saigon to a local noodle restaurant for a typical local breakfast with “Hu tieu”. The origins of hu tieu can be traced back to the Chinese and the Cambodians who created and later made it popular in Saigon. It has now become a signature dish of the South.
After the light breakfast, the driver will take you straight to the pier where we have a quick transfer to Thanh Da peninsula by a speedboat. Upon arrival, there’s chance to explorer the some peaceful streets and a local market on foot, alternatively you can spend time on some kayaking on Saigon River. Come back the home-stay, you’re welcome to try hands on cooking your lunch in Vietnamese dishes. Enjoy jour lunch at the beautiful garden beside the Saigon River. After the savory home meal, the speedboat will take you back to the pier.
Disembark from the the speedboat, there’s time for us to take an easy walk along the Saigon riverfront which gives an interesting perspective on the changing city - from the old to the new. The stroll will take you past some colonial buildings and also give an interesting glimpse of locals doing their daily exercise, or simply cooling off by the river and chatting over a drink.
We’ll make our way back to your hotel by local scooter before rush hour. Trip ends at around 4:30 PM.
