Start with the colorful Nyaung U Market where locals from surrounding villages gather for food, crafts and other goods. Visit Shwezigon Pagoda, a prototype of later Myanmar stupa. Continue to the cave temple of Wetkyi-in Gubyaukkyi with fine mural paintings of Jataka scenes, Manuha Temple with gigantic Buddha images and Nanpaya, an early-style temple with fine stone carvings. Then visit a lacquer ware workshop to learn more about traditional Myanmar lacquer ware making

In the afternoon, visit Ananda Temple, a masterpiece of Mon architecture with four standing Buddhas, and the adjacent brick monastery from the early Bagan era with well-preserved murals. Next is Thatbyinnyu Temple, the tallest temple measuring 61m. Continue to Dhammayangyi Temple, the largest of all temples in Bagan. Climb up one of the monuments to enjoy sunset above Bagan plain and Ayeyarwady River.
